This is an interview with Sherman Dolman, an immigrant from Germany. He came to America as a young child, and was frightened by things like the Native Americans. His father was a blacksmith, and Dolman followed in his fathers footsteps and was a blacksmith for 40 years. He was a painter at the time of this interview (he was 75). The worst time for his family was in the 1870's, where his family had to live off of "cornflakes."
Sherman Dolman seemed like a normal man, who made an honest living. As a child, coming to America must have been difficult, but he seemed to cope.
